After holding her hands for awhile and looking her over, I can tell you that there's no spell or other magic taint on Chloe. She does use a wonderful skin cream though that makes her skin very soft with a faint scent of vanilla, I think. Maybe a bit of mint. Very nice. Also has perfect nails. Just the right size where there wouldn't be stripping away of skin during sex but enough to know they're there. Has she considered a coppery nailpolish. Think that would work well with her skin tone.

Whatever this thing she has on you is, she's not consciously doing it. Doesn't seem to be the work of anyone else either. I'm going to need to work on it awhile longer to know for sure.

[John frowns down at his drink, swirling the liquid in it before finishing it off. Something about this isn't sitting right with him, and he can't put his finger on it.]

I wish I had anything better to tell you about that. I know magic affects her, she can feel it going through her. Lit up like a girl having her first orgasm. No mental defenses though that I'm seeing. It's strange. If she was a weapon, knowing or unknowing, I'd expect her to be mentally armoured like a tank. She's a mystery, Lucy.

[There's a quiet sigh, a moment of controlling his reaction before he shoots John a tight smile.]

I do like the little glow trick. Did you tell her you'd be snaking about in her mind? Offer her someone there to be sure you didn't do anything nasty?

[John doesn't return the smile, shaking his head a bit in reply.]

I didn't go into her mind, Lucifer. I told you that if I did that, I wanted you there or someone she trusts. Even with permission, that's invasive in a way I don't like. All I did was put a small magic charge through her to see if someone else had cursed her, influenced her or if she herself was a trap. Before I did, I explained it all to her first.

I wouldn't give you my word on that and then go behind your back.

I'd say you wouldn't be the first, but then, most were never as aware of the truth of it like you've been. Fair enough. So what was the good news? That she's not a trap or that she's not aware?

I gave my word, Lucy. Would have kept it even if you were a powerless demon like the rest of us.

The good news is that she's aware of what she is, wants it gone and is aware it could be used against you. She's more concerned about you acting like a fool, getting yourself hurt due to her. You found yourself a decent human.

How do you want to proceed from here? I don't want to pull something out of her that might be her just because she wants it gone so you don't get hurt.

[His lips quirked at that, John always having such a wonderful tone to add to any conversation. He could see why something like that might have irked his replacement.

His fingers tap along his leg as he ponders that, then gives him a shrug.]

Leave it be. As it is, it's not harming her. It's seemingly a part of her. Seems rather idiotic to risk harming her to remove it when you've no idea what 'it' is, just because I might get a papercut. No, it can stay where it is. The worst has already happened, anyway.

[John nods, leaning back in his splintering chair with his feet propped up on the display case.]

All right. That's something between you two, not my place to meddle. That said, be careful because if you get your soul ripped out, she's going to make me come along to rescue you. Bet she won't even get me any good cigarettes or drink for the whole effort.

She might have a twitch for magic. You want a full stop on that too?

That's up to her. I don't know if I could see her trying to dabble in the arcane. She's too... grounded. If it pleases her to learn and you're up for the challenge, it's no concern of mine.

Fair enough. Going to give her a drink to steady her and then send her home then. Any bad effects, let me know. Shouldn't be, but you never know.

That she is. I wouldn't send her home to you without knowing your opinion on things. She knows that same as you do.

Will do so. If it's a 'no', I'll tell when she's leaving although I'm going to ask you don't make too much noise on the roof when you arrive anyway. Stalking isn't attractive, Lucifer.

You're very cheeky for someone that knows exactly what I'm capable of, Magician. Reminds me of Maze.

I just don't wear the leather as well or have a desire to stab humans for existing. I'm probably much more fun in bed too since I've got bits I'm guessing she doesn't.

You're always free to find out yourself. I think she'd be curious about you. Wondering if there's anything to the hype.

She and I already visited, Lucy. Had a nice chat. Didn't kill anyone. A good playdate all told.

We complained about dead humans wearing Halloween costumes of angels and demons. The importance of not giving feathers or blood to magicians who can do bad things with them. Then we went back to how stupid humans were. How much she misses Hell. How much I didn't. Things like that.

What, no sex? I'm not sure which of you I'm more disappointed in.

We couldn't decide who was going to be on top and who got to hold the knife. Things like that can kill a relationship.
