[She can practically hear the eagerness from that opening slam of the door, biting her lip before she even turned around to hide her smile. Indeed, she had lied, not decked out in a tiny red suit or bunny ears, but instead leaning against the wall overlooking the city below.
Turning around, she lifted a brow at him.]
Seriously? You should know better by now. At that point, the fault lies with you.
Me? I'm not the lying liar. All coy and adorable and tempting with your little... everything.
[He waved at hand at her at 'everything', implying that the mere fact she existed was temptation enough. He didn't sound actually piqued, though, the eyeroll turning to a huff, then a smile as he tucked his hands in his pockets to start walking over towards her.]
Well, what is it you want me to see, mm? Clearly nothing fun.
You're the one that jumped to conclusions. It's not my fault you're that easy.
[A soft huff of amusement as she turned back to looking over at the city, eyes lifting to the lights blinking softly overhead. Satellites, she assumed, along with constellations dimmed by the lights of the city that she couldn't recognize. Whole swaths of them painted against the darkness. She'd noted them before, but she'd never gotten such a comprehensive view. It made her wonder what they looked like beyond the city limits; beautiful and unnerving alike, really, a perfect picture to remind her that she really was on some alien moon.
She nudged him with her shoulder, though, when he got close enough.]
You don't have to stick around if you've got something better to do. I did find the scenery worth a look at, though.
[He looked out to where she was staring, noticing the newness that always came from human habitation. He'd been around long enough to see the dots of light grow and change over the planet he'd watched over. Nothing ever truly stayed the same, and looking out at this newness didn't seem to mean as much to him as it did her.
But the nudge had him smiling, turning to look at her and that wonder on her face as she just enjoyed what she saw.]
I've been doing a lot of research lately. Someone pointed me in the direction of the local library, and I found a bunch of information on their solar systems. I never actually stopped to look at any of the stars before, so I guess my curiosity got the best of me...
[She trailed off as she glanced over at him, noticing him staring. She smiled lightly before looking down, a curtain of blonde hair hiding her face for a moment.]
Anyhow. I got a little caught up in my own head and wanted some company, I guess.
[Standing there with her, he looked back out over the city, past that to the blanket of black above them. The stars there were certainly ones he'd never seen before. Or, at least ones he hadn't seen from the vantage point he was at. This wasn't exactly Earth's location in the universe, after all. Even if that world existed, they could be light years from it.
Still, he found the hand closest to her slipping free of his pocket, pinky finger nudging ever so slightly against her hand.]
[It put her in a weird mood. Seeing the unfamiliar stars and lights laid out so apparently in front of her just reminded her of how far away from home she was. How far away she was from Trixie, Dan, her mother, hell, even Maze. Except for Lucifer. Lucifer, who'd strayed from her side lately but always seemed to come back.
And in the back of her mind, it made her think of him, fallen and alone and bereft of his home. She wouldn't wish that on anyone; it made her heart squeeze. Which might be why his tentative touch had her reaching back quietly, letting her fingers wind loosely around his. A simple way to ground herself, perhaps.]
Mm, not really. Though I guess it depends on what you count as long.
[It surprised him how such a small thing like a touch to his hand could have his heart beating more quickly in his chest. Silly, really, yet... there they were. His fingers twined with hers, a silly smile on his face as he fought not to look back over at her, not to be caught staring again.]
Has it passed the millennium mark? If so, I missed that memo.
[That got a small laugh out of her, the comment obviously catching her off guard, though she knew he was telling the truth, too. What was a day when compared to millennia? She couldn't even imagine.]
What's that like, anyhow? Being alive that long and seeing... well, everything, I guess. You don't even seemed phased by being brought here.
Boring. Incredibly, mind-achingly boring. It's why you're so fun to be around. Nothing like something new, and you, my dear, are entirely new. New and fun and full of pain-inducing slaps. I like new. New, after billions of years, is worth paying attention to.
Ahhh. Right. You did save my life because you found me 'interesting', after all.
[And how weird of a comment it'd been back then, and yet it made sense when putting everything into context. Like he was looking through a microscope at a colorful bug he'd never seen before.]
You know they call people who like pain masochists, right? It's not always a good thing. Or particularly sexy.
[He looked down at their joined hands, lifting them as he lowered his head to press a kiss to her thumb.]
You're the only one human who's been able to cause me pain like that. I can think of quite a few ways it would be sexy. You in a sexy but stern teacher's outfit with a riding crop...
[Mm. That was a good mental image.]
I'm not of the mind to be beat to death, Detective. But a little extra something... well. That's the rub of it, isn't it? Everything with you is extra. Even your touch is... more. I like it.
[The question slipped out before she could entirely stop it, but she found she meant it anyhow. Because even she could understand what that might feel like. Having the same old day after day before coming across something new and exciting.
But that was the thing about being new, wasn't it? It never stayed that way for long.]
Yeah, you wish. And for someone who keeps getting hurt nearly to death because of said extra something, you'd think you'd be a little more wary of it. Too much of anything without any concerns for the consequences can be dangerous. And not in the fun way.
[His other hand came up as he turned to her, stroking back a strand of hair as he looked down at those night-lit features he'd become so enamored of.]
I do wish. I find a lot of my own desires lately gravitate around you. But... you already know that, don't you. Danger is... moot. Life is danger. When people can die just crossing the street or eating a bloody nut, danger becomes somewhat relative. I'd rather live and have as few regrets as possible than wonder 'what if'.
I wouldn't've asked if I didn't want to know, would I?
[Except she had paused to look at him, as if trying to pick him apart. Because while part of her knew, in the way she sometimes just knew things intuitively while on a case, they'd been in a weird place lately. Especially after he left so suddenly. And while she had more reason and context than she did before, enough for her to understand, there was still that need to rebuild. And even build further, now that she knew who and what he really was.
But then he touched her so gently and she drew her lip in between her teeth, an unconscious gesture that made her zero in on him and each of his little movements.]
The difference being most people at least look both ways before crossing a street. Or they do their best to avoid nuts if they know they're allergic. Not having regrets is great, but I'd rather you stick around long enough to enjoy it.
I told you, Detective. I have no plans to go anywhere without you any time soon. I meant it.
[Ah, that coy little lip bite. That movement that drew his eyes to her mouth, made him remember that soft press of them and crave more of it. More of her. Not that he was all that surprised, really. He did love to indulge, and he'd been aching to indulge in her for a long while.]
You don't have to plan it for it to happen. Just— be careful. That's all I'm saying.
[It's something she noticed quite acutely. Him watching her, eying her appreciatively but not in a leering fashion like he did in the beginning days of their partnership.]

[Asked with a smirk as he was already making his way up towards the roof.]

[That one's just to mess with him. Because she can.]

He knew better. Surely he did. There wasn't a hot tub on the roof.
...
Was there?
And yet there he was, quickening his steps upward as he fumbled at his phone.]
Is it a tiny red suit?

Congratulations, Chloe. She was capable of both giving him blueballs and making him pout.]
Oh, you dirty little liar.
